Marquam Hill

Cityscapes, Cappuccino and Council Crest

Marquam Hill is named after Philip Marquam, a gold-miner turned lawyer. In 1857, he purchased 298 acres that became known as “Marquam Hill”. In the early 1900’s, a medical school was built on the hill and over the years, “Pill Hill” has expanded into the current University of Oregon Health Sciences Center (OHSU), which includes the Dental School.
This residential neighborhood, overlooking Downtown and the Willamette River, is filled with a mixture of homes and apartment buildings. Its location in the West Hills offers prestige and convenience to nature trails. For example, the Marquam Nature Park, accessed on Sam Jackson Parkway, winds through Douglas fir forests and continues to Council Crest.
